Ballroom dancing factors affecting the development of couple relationships

TITLE: Ballroom Dancing Factors Affecting the Development of Couple Relationships AUTHOR: MariánVanek DEPARTMENT: Department of Psychology SUPERVISOR: Doc. PhDr. Vladimír Chrz, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The bachelor thesis deals with the factors of social dances that have an impact on the development of couple relationships. Another theme is the discussion about possible use of ballroom dancing in couple therapy and counseling. Unstructured interview method with professional dance teachers was used to gain insight into effective factors of ballroom dancing. Interview with one married couple and record of participant observation of their dance lessons was also collected to increase validity. The theoretical framework of this thesis is participatory research paradigm and principles of qualitative approach in psychology. Interviews were analyzed by the method of triple encoding. Two models were then created. The first model shows the seven factors of ballroom dancing affecting the development of couple relationships. It is a dance teacher mediation, communication training, problem solving training, body resonance, shared activity, aesthetics and neutral environment. The second model based on Vygotsky's concept of mediated action shows the similarities and differences in key aspects of couple counseling and individual...
Level of motor abilities of primary school children dealing with ballroom dancing

The aim of this dissertation is to find out the level of motoric abilities at younger school age children who take part in social dance. I tested the level of motoric abilities using the test battery Unifittest (6 - 60). I compared the level of motoric abilities at younger school age children who take part in social dance and at younger school age children who only attend PE lessons. I tried to find out the change of the level in motoric abilities at the two above mentioned groups. I also tried to discover the type and frequency of other sport activities which children regularly do in their free time. Empirically focused part of my thesis substantiate that children of the younger school age, who take part in social dance, achieved a bigger improvement of fitness and coordinative motoric abilities. The biggest improvement was in the test of flexibility. On the basis of the questionnaire survey I found out, that children of the younger school age who do not take part in social dance, very often devote to football in their leisure. "Nosotros no bailamos así": Salsa as globalized and commercialized phenomenon in the local context

This thesis deals with the musical and dance style known as "Salsa" which roots can be traced to the Caribbean of Latin America. In this work, salsa is investigated as a global phenomenon in the local context of Prague and at the same time as a commercialized product. In terms of salsa as a global phenomenon, the work deals with the characteristics of salsa as a social dance in the local context and tries to trace its social functions. In addition to the effects of the commercialization and tropicalized ideas of salsa and Latin American cultures on its form, the thesis also touches on topics such as internal negotiation and external construction of Latin American identity (latinidad), which are related to salsa as a global phenomenon and its commercialization. The work is based on several months of ethnographic research and semi- structured interviews conducted mainly with salseros from Latin America, the Czech Republic and others, not only European countries.
